Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in Halifax

St. Patrick’s Day started as a religious feast day in the 17th century, marking the death of St. Patrick, who is credited with spreading Christianity in Ireland. The tradition of parades began in New York City in 1766, when Irish Catholic members of the British army took to the streets to showcase their pride and cultural identity.
