Today I’m joined by Matt and we take to the hills surrounding Amed to explore the back roads and villages of the area by scooter.
We come across a local Balinese man working the rice fields in the traditional way by way of cows instead of machines and I ask how long this work will take.
We also stop in the area’s largest town and visit the markets where I chat to a number of vendors about their day - one particular older lady is just a hoot and having a great time.
Back in Amed I walk the beach for the first time in years to come across unusual log formations with a conical weaved basket thing stuck in the middle and have absolutely no idea what they are.
We also see a fisherman land his boat at speed onto the beach then chat with him about his day, what fish he caught, how expensive fuel is.
It’s a great introduction to Amed.
