Is This the Oldest Photograph?...of Jesus?

Even over half a millennium later, a 15-foot long piece of linen cloth known as “the Shroud of Turin” continues to baffle both scientists and followers of Christianity and the Catholic Church. The famous image that the shroud contains has since become an icon for Jesus Christ, but heated debate still exists on whether or not the Holy relic is actually genuine.

It was during the early stages of the Hundred Years War, when a French knight, by the name of Geoffroi de Charny, came across one of humanity’s most alluring and mysterious artifacts.

In order to give thanks to God for his escape from the English as a prisoner of war, Geoffroi built a church located in a small commune in France, where many pilgrims would go to make acts of contrition and pray before the sacred object.

It is known as the Holy Shroud, or the Shroud of Turin. It is a 14.5' x 3.5' length of linen cloth, containing the image of a man who appears to have been executed by means of crucifixion.

Based on the details of the man’s physical trauma depicted in the image and its parallels with many biblical records, the man in question is popularly believed to be Jesus Christ.

Even several centuries later, the cloth continues to be the center of some of the most controversial of discussions.

Not only that, but the exact origins of the shroud and how it got its image have yet to
be conclusively identified by science. These circumstances and the lack of information present continue to form the divide between believers and those who support the claims made by science, making the holy cloth, literally, shrouded in mystery. And for the deaf people, I HAVE CLOSED CAPTIONS!!!
