#Hodor #Jinx #HBO
Hodor’s final scene is more than horrifying, it’s more than shocking, more than tragic -- there’s something ELSE at play here. These scenes are rare, but there’s a pattern to them, with its own set of techniques and methods. The audience expects a straightforward scene of Bran escaping from the White Walkers, and what they get is the culmination of an entire character’s life. In Arcane, Powder also gets a scene like this in episode 3. We expect this act’s tragedy to consist of the killing of her family, but we get a scene instead of Powder’s glee at her first invention ever to work. It feels like it comes out of nowhere, it doesn’t compute, and what follows is a scene that’s more than shocking, more than horrifying, more than simply sad. These scenes stick with us and become some of the most talked about scenes in their stories, making them a topic worth exploring.
