Inside my homegrown purple potatoes! | Diary of a Yorkshire Gardener

I’ve grown two varieties of purple potatoes this year 👇🏼💜


🥔Salad Blue (in short) from @taylorsbulbs
Main crop, blue/purple skin & flesh, floury texture, perfect for baking, roasting, mash, boiling or chips.

🥔Blue Danube from @taylorsbulbs
Early main crop, blue skin, white flesh, excellent overall disease resistance & good for storage.

I admit I grew these both for fun, not expecting much from the taste but they’re actually pretty good!

Grown in grow bags at home and I also have some in the ground at the plot (to be harvested). I put about 3 chitted seed potatoes in a bag with fresh compost and some chicken manure pellets. Earthed up a couple of times and watered when needed.

Definitely growing Salad Blue again next year as they got to a good size and I had a lot of them. I’m undecided on Blue Danube at the moment!
