Josephine Kalombola, a mentor mother with Mothers2Mothers in Malawi, spends her days addressing young people’s concerns and misconceptions about human papillomavirus (HPV) in the country. Since Malawi has one of the highest cervical cancer mortality rates, Josephine encourages all girls aged 9-14 years to receive their HPV vaccination to protect against the high-risk HPV types that cause cervical cancer.
“We need to serve our girls now to prevent them from cervical cancer,” she says. “No woman should die of cervical cancer. And that can be possible, if we encourage these vaccines.”
