The real estate development process can be intimidating. It often feels chaotic, haphazard, and arbitrary -- especially for people new to real estate development. Groundwork USA's Technical Assistance team’s experience working with practitioners and laypeople in brownfield-affected communities across the country has shown us that few local stakeholders understand the ins and outs of the real estate development process, much less when and where to get involved and potentially shape a project’s features and outcomes.
To help reverse that situation and empower local communities, Groundwork USA has created this Development Process Map to help stakeholders, local officials, and grassroots organizations better understand all the steps involved in developing a “bricks and mortar” real estate project.
Viewers will explore each facet of the real estate development process in detail, including market analysis, feasibility study, community engagement, due diligence considerations of contamination, finance and site design, and through deal-making, construction, and project management.
