From the moment I entered the world of 3D printing, I couldn’t escape the endless talk of wet filament. Scroll through Reddit or Facebook groups, and you’ll see it blamed for every 3D print quality issue imaginable. Warping? Wet filament. Stringing? Definitely wet filament. Naturally, one of my first accessory purchases was a stack of vacuum bags and a USB vacuum pump... even though my five lonely rolls of filament weren’t even hygroscopic.

Here’s the thing: while all filament absorbs moisture, not all filaments are equally affected. Some types soak it up faster, and some print just fine even if they’ve been sitting out. My experience hasn’t always matched the internet’s claims, so I decided to tackle the big question: Which filaments actually NEED drying, and which ones are a waste of your time, energy, and electricity?
