AI is a powerful tool that requires careful handling. AGI is an existential threat.

AI is a powerful tool, and a person with amazing AI will usually beat a person not using AI - someone with a good tool generally beats a person with a bad tool - But the tool isn't the person! The tool isn't a religion and these days it often seems that technology is becoming a religion (read Marc Andreessen's techno-optimist manifesto www.gerdfeed.com/search/andreessen )

Sre we going to end up that AI tells us what to believe? What about our own thinking? Machine intelligence is not the same as human intelligence, and we should keep it that way. Arthur C. Clarke says, Let me remind you that information is not knowledge, and knowledge is not wisdom.

We have to remind ourselves: machines don't think, machines don't have hunches that don't understand or imagine. They certainly don't care. Technology alone is not enough. Intelligence alone is dangerous. Learning is not about data and information. It's about realization.
