NAMM 2025: A Look at Boss VG 800

At this year's NAMM, we caught up with Austin from Boss, who introduced us to the *VG 800*, the latest addition to their VG series of virtual guitar products. Austin explained that this unit integrates some of the noteworthy features from the VG 99 and prior models, while being more compact and user-friendly.

The VG 800 employs a GK5 serial pickup connected through a quarter-inch TRS cable, allowing for alternate tuning of each guitar string within an octave. With a simple turn of the knob, you could switch from a drop D flat to open G, or create custom tunings. Additionally, guitar modeling is possible, transforming a standard Strat sound to resemble a 12-string or Les Paul.

The unit accommodates your natural guitar playing style including bends and harmonics, and effectively handles latency. It also offers stereo outputs, and supports expression pedals and foot switches. Its retail price is set at $699.
