Running a Google Ads Retargeting Campaign? Don’t Overlook This Setting!
I’ve seen it too often, accounts wasting retargeting budgets on cold audiences. Here’s what you need to check:
If Optimized Targeting is enabled, your ads might be reaching people who’ve never interacted with your brand. That means your retargeting message isn’t hitting the right audience and your budget’s being wasted.
Take this example: nearly £1,500 went to cold audiences, while only £6 was spent on actual retargeting.
Even agencies sometimes miss this one.
Here’s the fix: Head to your ad group settings and uncheck Optimized Targeting for your retargeting campaigns. (Also remove it from your Auto Applied recommendations!)
Simple as that—and your budget will go back to reaching your real audience.
