How do you feel when walking in crowds?! 🤔
When you have a chronic illness that affects your strength, balance, and energy... walking in crowds can be HARD!
A lot of my clients with MS struggle with this too.
Not only that, many people with MS and other chronic illnesses also experience things like…
🚶♀️ Dizziness in Crowds:
Navigating through tons of people can be disorienting, which can cause dizziness and make it harder to maintain your balance.
👀 Feeling Self-Conscious:
When you’re using a mobility aid or walking slower than the crowd, it’s easy to feel like people are staring at you, which can add to the stress and anxiety of being in public spaces.
🤝 Needing Physical Support:
Sometimes, holding on to a friend for support is essential. It’s not a sign of weakness—it’s a smart way to stay safe and steady.
If you’ve felt any of these, know that you’re not alone.
Many people share these challenges, and it’s okay to take the steps you need to feel more comfortable and secure.
And because I can't help myself, here are a few tips that can help you feel more confident in crowds:
1️⃣ Practice walking around obstacles in your home (ie. furniture, animals, books/toys on the floor, etc.)
2️⃣ Practice walking in areas with narrow hallways/spaces + big spaces where walls are too far away to reach
3️⃣ Practice walking in areas that aren't well-lit
4️⃣ Practice walking while turning your head from side to side
Practicing these types of exercises can allow your mind and muscles to stay calm in real-life situations where you’re walking in crowds.
