Banh Chung is more than just a Tet treat, it’s symbolic of the celebration itself. Everyone in Vietnam, and I mean everyone, will either make or eat it at some point during the holiday. Tet without Banh Chung Cake would be like Thanksgiving without turkey, you just don’t do it.

As popular as it is, especially at this time of year, it’s not always easy for travelers to find unless you know where to look. Most often, you’ll spot it at street vendor stalls or even mobile cooking setups. If you do manage to find it, it’s definitely worth a try, not just for the experience, but to say you’ve done it.
