Great tip, I also get my pipe wet before I put it in.. slides in much easier

@patugejv

Pro tip. Use poly pipe instead of PVC. Poly stretches and has some give when it freezes. PVC just breaks when it freezes because it does not have any give. Great job on putting the PVC together!

You know what’s great about dad advice videos? The guys in the comments also helping, giving alternatives. Bo’s small gesture expands, and with little to no nasty comments, just helpful tips and advice. Thanks, guys. ❤

@Critter145

I worked for a landscaping company in northern indiana, hand digging irrigation system installs. This is a great way of doing it. The only thing missing is compressing the dirt so the pipes don’t move and flex.

@tonymarc8852

Paps, you are the greatest Dad of all time. All of your non biological children, including me, love you very much for your great work. Like they say" measure first then CUT, lay it down first, then glue"

@cbthebull

Damn it dad.. I was so proud of you until I saw the hose😂 it's just as easy to connect it to a valve system and timer run off of you house water. You did everything right this is nice to see after 15 years in the industry

@einsteinsdaddy1

A few tips from a professional:
1. Don't wet your swing pipe. Heat it very briefly with a torch. It slides on easier, then as it cools it contracts around the barbs.
2. After putting your glue joints together, turn them a few degrees in either direction. This erases any channels in the glue made by particles of pvc, sand, or other debris.
3. Don't dig a trench. When the ground is moist use a sturdy sod spade with about a 12" long bade driven straight down with your body weight, then move it back and forth perpendicular to the trench with the center of the blade pivoting on the soil ½ way down the blade. This will create an hour-glass shaped trench which you can easily push your pre-built lateral line down into. The wider bottom is big enough to hold your pipe and fittings, the wider mouth will accommodate the top of the heads and the bottleneck in the middle will press against the narrower body of the head, holding it in place while you tamp down the earth.
4. When in doubt about the depth always err on the side of too deep because it's very easy to raise the depth of a buried head by simply pulling it up on it and packing soil around it but very difficult to lower a head without digging it up again.

@cuaresmacarpentry

That looks good. I did it the cheap and lazy way, found a soaker hose on sale. ran it across the base of my bushes and hooked it to one of those b-hive water valves.

@thecrownedjester

These shallow pipes are above the frost line so just be sure to blow all of the water out with an air compressor before it gets down to freezing temperatures so the pipes don’t crack underground and you end up having to replace them.

@BrianCushite

Thank you sir. Saved and on the long list of things I need to do to the backyard. Lol. Thanks again

@Chief_5

Great content, You can add a quick release to the hose that way you don’t have to screw it on and off.

@uru5z219

Thanks the guide , will be purchasing our first home after living overseas for year . Been wanting have house with sprinkers for 10 years , seeing I can do it myself I will try instead of calling someone to do it .

@housewifehoneybee2784

Beautifully done!

@Rooster8587

Love the work. Unfortunately where I'm at, you are not going to build that entire assembly for $100.

@ELEVOPR

With my bad back and neck. I should be done in 6 months 😂

Good Stuff, Thanks for sharing. 👍🏻

@josephpretorius8607

When I worked irrigation one summer we used a blow torch to soften the rubber tubing to make fitting easier.

@amypaparone55

This is going to happen at my house for sure!! Thanks so much for sharing 😊

@bobcat5241

Very nice work. Thank you for sharing.

@mattd8411

Looks awesome man. Good idea

@donnastormer9652

I’m almost 70 years old and live by myself and I absolutely love working with PVC. It’s like quilting it’s instant self gratification. I’ve done the same thing but your spray painting idea was something. I will definitely take away from this video. Thank you for doing this. I live in Northwest Florida so it’s not hard to dig a small trench. It’s just Sand.
