As a LS430 owner... FIX IT!! She gets WHATEVER she needs, and always OEM parts. I LOVE THESE CARS!! They. Are. WONDERFUL!
Short answer, yes. If the V8 gas costs don’t bother you and it’s not rusting, just keep these LS400 on the road forever.
Mrs. Wizard: The wood is actually real. Lexus worked with Yamaha (the piano makers) and used their expertise for all the wood trim pieces.
$2000? That’s a service, set of tires, and brakes. Just do it. Not like they’re spending 7 grand on a Nissan Hardbody.
$2K is cheap in comparison to a $1,200 car payment... IMO
The main point of this video isn't the lexus.... it's how rare it is to have a great, honest mechanic, develop a good working relationship, and get great customer service. Wizard! You rock! I'm glad to see daniel son is getting your years of expertise and compassion. This is more than just a car channel
$2000 worth of repairs on a car that has been proven to be able to reach a million miles in nothing.
I have a 1990 LS400, I also have a 2010 LS460, I keep the LS400 as a spare. I recently spent $6,000 for repairs, money well spent. For that amount of money, I could not purchase a vehicle that is as reliable and safe as my LS.
Sorry Ms. Wizard but that is indeed real wood veneer. It was actually done by the piano craftsman from Yamaha.
Not only is it worth fixing up, I'd say it would be worth it to fix the front seats and the armrest also.
Easy to answer. Any LS400 without significant body or interior damage is worth doing up to $10K fixes.
That LS is like an eternal car. I don't think there's ever been one any better built. My '05 ES330 got into a fender bender in Oct., bodyshop wanted $3200 to fix it, car's only worth $5K maybe, most people would have junked it - I couldn't do that. I fixed it myself for about $400 with used fender and some other parts because I love the car and it's "only" got 193K miles on it. Got 95% results for 12% money.
Excellent show and review Wizard. So glad you are highlighting cars that 90% of your audience drives. Honda/Toyota/Lexus etc. Not those exotics that none of us can afford. Your content has been fantastic lately.
This car will always be worth it to repair. It should be kept on the road forever. It represents the absolute peak of humanity the age this car is from. 😎
Great to see this Wizard. We do this quite a bit in Ireland, for loyal customers who regularly spend money in the shop its easy to eat the cost for smaller items that save you a bigger job in the long run. Especially during these hard economic times. Thats what gets you customers for life👍
That dead thermostat is what killed the cats. Low temp means that extra fuel is injected. My nephew found that pout the hard way with a Ford Taurus. They lived in NC and didn't notice that the car wasn't warming up.
I had an LS400 come in with the owner wanting the engine fixed. Parts alone were over $2000 and another grand for labor....and the guy was shocked and said 'But I only paid $500 for the car'!! Like how much you paid had ANY relevance to the cost of repair. I don't deal well with customers or idiots.
Great video. I am of the same mind set about the cost of new cars versus maintaining your older car. Having a good, reasonable and honest mechanic is also a big plus. Thanks for helping this regular customer out.
3:09 It’s actually real wood veneer from Yamaha.
