I have played with PSX quite a bit and have got pretty much everything to play at full speed but fiddling is required. 1. Use Retroarch version 1.16.0 2. Set audio output to dsp-threaded 3. Once in game go to core settings and set Threaded Rendering to Asynchronous 4. In GPU Plugin make sure all are switched on 5. In Audio make sure all but CD audio and XA decoding are switched off That are all the settings I have found that make any noticeable improvement.
This is the best emulator test (also guide) on the 3DS ever!
Also, i know this is technically not an emulator, but there's an EasyRPG port for the 3ds! Great for playing games like Yume Nikki, old Oneshot, and other cool stuff that was made in RPG Maker 2000/2003
It’s worth mentioning also the WONDERFUL 3DS port of ScummVM, which lets you play great graphic adventures like Monkey Island 1-2-3, Maniac Mansion, Sam & Max, Day of the Tentacle and even Blade Runner (this last one with some struggle) The 3DS is such a jem
Dude, thank you so much for this video! This morning I randomly decided to revive my modded old 3DSXL that I haven't touched since 2017 and turn it into a NDS, 3DS and retro Nintendo emulation device and this video is perfect! My goal is to create a hybrid device that offers the most authentic NDS/3DS experience possible with some of the features of the retro handheld gaming devices that have exploded in popularity in the last few years, however, the last time I messed with 3DS modding there wasn't a reliable way to run NDS ROMs without a flashcart so something like this wasn't possible. I have a Steam Deck that's capable of more comprehensive emulation but this will hopefully breathe some life into this old device that I used to really love. I had a similar set up with my DS lite in high school and used it as my main gaming system for NES, SNES, Game Boy/Color and NDS games (couldn't run GBA for some reason) for almost 10 years.
18:05 DOS stuck around longer than you’d think. I recall playing a Spot the Dog game on Windows Me as a very young child, im only 20.
The 3ds is SEVERLY underrated. I wish Nintendo had done WAY more for the virtual console. They could have made it the most important console in terms of back compat.
Anyone who is a fan of ANY vb game has got to try it on the 3ds. It is the only (widely accessible) way to enjoy those games in their true 3D glory.
Banger of a video, you definitely deserve more subs, this must of taken a ton of work. Might I suggest non-emulated games, such as standalone ports like doom for another video topic?
12:26 I suddenly remembered the Jaguar ad in magazines back then "do the math" but the Jaguar was a fake 64-bit machine comprised of 2 32 bit processors
0:48: I think they consolidated ALL "3D"S models like XL, 2DS, and new. So devide the number by the amount of versions, since every new version needed new development and the first 3DS systems were sold at a loss I believe
Thank you very much for this video. The 3DS is the only Nintendo handheld console I've never owned. I've been interested in something that fits in my pocket and can emulate many older systems. In this past, I used the GBA, then the DS Lite for this purpose. I wanted a newer device and I was thinking of the 3DS, but after seeing this video, I think I'll be better off with another device. I'll probably get one from Anbernic or Miyoo.
Amazing video, very underrated channel!
I highly recommend playing the resident evil games emulated (re2 and re3) on new 3ds both run flawlessly and are able to be completed from start to finish.
Super informative video and great editing. Keep up the good work!!!
I have a White Dsi and a blue dsi XL and i modded it 3 days ago and it is a dream come true
As someone who's been extremely active in the 3DS homebrew scene since...the time where such a concept was first possible (ie, the Cubic Ninja days), not once had I found a non-crap solution for GBA emulation on 3DS...until I saw this video. Who knew mGBA got ported to 3DS, and managed to be a better GBA emulator on there than Nintendo's own efforts?! Not me, apparently, and I'm still incredibly shocked that such a development evaded me, for all these years. Thank you, for bringing this emulator to my attention, as I've been playing a LOT of Emerald rom hacks lately, and playing them on my 3DS? I can't imagine a better way to play them, honestly! ^^
Great video @smallthoughts, I always love to see the 3DS (and DS series in general) getting some love ❤ A well laid out, understandable video that explained a lot of what I adore about the 3DS, thanks for making it! They are truly amazing consoles that I feel today offer a really good handheld gaming experience for anoyone wanting to explore the sheer massive librarys of games from the past that it can play.
I love playing SNES games on my 3DS. It feels perfect
