I love how Catholic social teaching isn’t left or right or center. Left reminds me of blue haired women who preach their body their choice. Right reminds me of a country hick who spouts loving the second amendment and has a whole shed dedicated to guns. And the center reminds me of taking things from both. Yet Catholicism reminds me that the love of Christ should influence social teaching and it is a reflection of Him, so I see it as something that follows God.

This is why the church should be our focal point , and lean into the teachings of god while giving to ceaser what is ceasers and give to god what is gods ,

I’m a Catholic, served as an Altar Boy at Our Lady of Sorrows in the 70s as a little boy. My parents volunteered at the church in the cafeteria and we had a beautiful Snowcone Stand in the summer. I attended an All Boys Parochial High School, Cathedral High School. Unfortunately, after my father passed away at age 11, and my mother became a widow, only a great Aunt, and Uncle, made time for us. None of the church community, my father and mother served with love and commitment, ever checked on my mother. I was 11 years old. My sister was 10 and my brother was 12. In high school, the All Boys Catholic School I was fortunate to attend, with a few exceptions, which included a Christian Brother, who still teaches there, I always felt unwanted. I was made to feel that I was of a lower caste. It was such a strange thing. It didn’t feel like they were following the teachings of Jesus Christ, the Lord Our God. Since graduating from high school, I have pursued a life in the service of others. I’m a sinner, and a terrible human being at times, yet I strived hard to not make people feel like “Catholics by title only,” adults, made me feel as a child. Like the Catholic adults did when I was a child and a teenager. I over index on seeing people and ensuring they know I see them and I care about how they feel in my presence. I offer all I have done for others, at scale, in the Marines, and post my Marine Corps career, to the Lord Our God. I offer this sadness I have shared here to the Lord Our God, Jesus. Clearly it continues to weigh on me. I must forgive. Live Jesus in Our Hearts, Forever. Amen 🙏 Signed, Lieutenant Colonel of U.S. Marines (Retired)

What was left and right has changed so much since I became politically aware. Many people say " I didn't leave the party. The party left me." The party changed I didn't. Catholic teaching is the same today as it was when I started Catholic grade school when I was 6 in 1953. A truth is constant or it is not a truth but an opinion.

Amen! Wonderful priestly instruction during one homily included the necessity of putting God first. Obviously the priest didn't make that up but was again obviously, carrying out that which our Founder commanded His Church to do. This regarding teaching His disciples His commandments, which includes keeping and observing them.

As a convert from a Christian yet Democratic household, the thing I struggle most with is the fact that, yes, all of these matters are of import to the Catholic... but only five are considered non-negotiable. I suspect that this fact hinders the attempt to enact and enforce policies that support certain vulnerable populations (that is, those who are not unborn or at the end of their life.)
