WOW that carved painted doorway was absolutely sensational. I'm always photographing doorways in Bali. Love the family compounds. We could all benefit from this housing mindset to live. Thanks for your daily vignettes of life in Bali, it's my only cheeky 10 mins on YT each day. 😊 πŸ™

I must have lived there in a former life. I live in the States, but always wanted a house with an open courtyard in the center. To see those beautiful homes is just incredible. I have even drawn up designs very similar, before knowing they exist. Beautiful 😍

@hereticalinfidelical

Thanks again dude. Enjoy these vids.

@retribution999

It's great that artists, wood and stone carvers are so accessible in Bali. Many workshops right on the roadside as you ride around the villages. I often stop and watch them for a while especially the wood carvers. Everything here is cottage industry. Another insightful video.

Thankyou wayne, such a good video❀

You show true bali. Well done. Your no fake like the other touristy sites that show rubbish.

I don't live in Bali but I've been living in Jakarta for over 30 years. In the old days before online services, one had to use angkot (small mini buses) a bit smaller than the one you got on. I always wondered what people would say back home if they could see how I lived. It was fun. Hot, sweaty and often took a long time as they stopped to wait for passengers. Indonesian is not an easy language to speak well. People who say it is, don't understand the nuances, tones and hidden meanings. Travelling around Jakarta on those angkots was a lesson in culture, language, patience and community. I bet if I said "minal" (a saying often called by public transport drivers & conductors) most foreigners would have no idea what I'm saying. Most Indonesians older than 20 would know immediately. πŸ˜‚. Keep practising your Indonesian. It is the only way to really integrate into the community. Be aware though, Indonesian is not the Balinese peoples first language. Keep up the good work.

Yes, that doorway is fantastic. I also would like to know what type of wood is used, or does it vary?
Nice little tips on Bali Belly too, Thanks MateπŸ‘

I had what the locals called Gili Billi diahorea. It was also while travelling by bus. I apologised to the others on the bus all of whom said no problem they too had been unwell. We stopped at a hotel they wouldn't let me use their toilet but did offer a bucket of cold water with feaces floating in it. I left the No Way hotel in misery. Fifteen minutes further on and I announced I might have to relieve myself at the side of the road or on the bus. The driver looked concerned and the guide pulled out a box of what appeared to be sweets that used to go under the various names of Loach, Fisherman's Friends or Victory V Lozenges. These were small black candies identical in appearance and taste to Fisherman's Friends. What a life saver. The generous guide gave me the whole box. I gave him a large tip on our return. Four black candies and an hour later I knew I would survive. These black candies in a red and orange box can be bought over the counter and certainly worked to Stop Gili Billi.

Thank you so much for your vlogs. I have been trying to learn indonesian for a few years but have never been game enough to try it. Watching you has given me the confidence to have a go. P.s I have loved watching your confidence grow and your language skills expanding. Great job. Keep up the good work😊😊

Hi Wayne. That door blew me away. It was beautiful. I would love to know if it was made from teak (kayu jati) or something else. Teak is an increasingly rare commodity; people pinch it from the forest, and the fines are quite severe.
