Thank you for mentioning the region release issue at the start of the video instead of like, at the end of the video or as a pinned comment without editing the video beforehand. Really important info one shouldn't miss. Quite unfortunate cause it looks so good too
So this company refuses to take my money. I'm baffled.
Watched this video from my Oppo Find N5 freshly bought in Singapore. Have been using it for three days, and it is absolutely amazing. Really love the big screen and thin form factor. Game changer for foldable phones in my opinion. The only downside is no getting a top notch flagship camera. But overall the camera is fine.
I'm still totally disappointed because it feels like a double betrayal. I've been waiting since last year for the release of the OnePlus Open 2 in Germany. When OnePlus announced that they wouldn't be launching a new foldable this year, but Oppo promoted the launch of the N5 as a "global launch," I was convinced that Oppo was changing its marketing strategy—aiming to become the global market leader in foldables instead of relying on its sister company to represent them in Western countries. I even watched the live event on YouTube and was so excited to finally be able to buy it. I can't believe that the so-called global launch ended up meaning only China, Malaysia, and Singapore. I clicked on every single region to see if it had become available anywhere else—but no. 😭
Its like there's loads of companies that just don't want my damn money!!
You recorded in Central London, and your phone is still in your hand! 😱🙏 There’s still hope for humanity!
To answer your question, I'm one of those people who uses the inner screen all the time. My Honer Magic V3 spends more time open than closed. It's a better experience in almost all use cases compared to a smaller outer screen. I don't watch loads of video on it, but it's still larger (despite the bars) than on the outer screen. I find it's more comfortable to weild with two hands when open, which suits me when I'm working or relaxing on the sofa. I can't see myself going back to a standard bar phone now I've made the jump to foldable. I'm disappointed to hear the Oppo Find N5 isn't coming to the UK, as I think it could convince more people to make the switch to a foldable.
those batteries thickness are unbelievable, Imagining putting couple of those sticked together in S25U or 16 pro max, it can reach 6000-6500 mAh easily
I genuinely believe there are bigger business deals happening in the background. Samsung Z fold has no competition in the western world. Everything that could promote improvement and innovation in the Z fold series is exclusive to China and a handful of countries and at this point I think it's intentional. Z fold has no incentive to grow and develop as a device.
10:52 Singapore uses the UK plug too, you might have gotten the retail unit from Singapore
11:14 I hate that excuse that cameras won't be as good on foldables as candybars. They already have this giant camera bump that keeps getting bigger and bigger. what's an extra mm or 2 added onto it.
Im in Singapore, kinda baffled when they announce the pricing in SGD. We are a small country and its wierd to see the price launch in our currency... Already pre ordered and will get my unit on Monday.
Great review for a great product! Kudos for saying straight away that it won't be released in EU/UK and risking not being followed to the end, you're really honest!
Honestly, I'm not really surprised. When OnePlus announced that the Open 2 would NOT be released, I was shocked when Oppo said the N5 would be. Why wouldn't they use the brand with the better western reputation? Oppo, Honor, Huawai, etc, have a somewhat negative recognition, due to China. Oppo bypasses that with the OnePlus brand.
I feel they should've kept it a bit thicker and made sure the speakers were the same quality as the OnePlus Open, which is one of the things I love about mine, that and the IR Blaster. They also could've increased the battery size or magnets.
Well I can confirm its out here in Singapore, played with it in the shop yesterday. Really really nice unit, but of course not cheap.
oh the irony - I find out about the device not coming to the UK from a video about the device and not from OPPO themselves who seem to shy away from things unless you have 1m followers. thanks for the heads up.
I would love to have a fold, but I hate it how large the phones are in folded mode still. They are just too big for a single hand. The sizes of phones are crazy, people are crazy.
Europe is living years behind asia at this point.
